Theo Fleury

I became a Flames fan in the mid 1990's so before the 03-04 playoff run my highlight of being a flames fan was watching Theo Fleury play in Calgary. He was one of the smallest players in the NHL at 5 foot 6 but that didn't stop him for doing things like scoring 50 goals, winning a stanley cup, and even getting in a few fights. For those of you who dont remember Theo Fleury was removed from the Black Hawks for abusing the NHL's substance policy a couple years back when he became more trouble than he was worth to use the term that was used at the time. Now, however, it has been reported that he would first of all no longer be considered abusing the substance program, which is a huge plus, and second is getting married and playing the game he used to play so well... well... so well again. I am sure right now Fleury wouldn't cut it in the NHL and might not even pass a physical, but if he continued to improve and really worked out I think he could be a 3rd or 4th liner in the NHL and maybe even for the Flames(I would take him over Jason Weimer).

Grow the fuck up. Theo never abused the program, he abused substances. Unless of course if you mean he abused the program by avoiding it altogether and thumbing his nose at his own Players Association, the League, and his long-time agent.

The only time Fleury contacted the NHL in the last three years was to file his retirement papers the first day the league reopened for business. The NHL hasn't turned its collective back on Theoren Fleury, it's the other way around. He's done and good riddance.

salutations! I became a fan as well in the 90's as a hockey widow.I love theoren fleury .He is very human and had the same upbringing as myself.Theoren is the underdog and has that angry fiesty attitude.Id never feel sorry for him or make excuses and he doesnt want any of that bullshit.Im excited to hear he is in Ireland doing what he does best, playing hockey .In a sport with insane hero worship Theoren fleury stands out as a human being complete with faults, demons, and character(good and bad).As a newly married chick COMPLETELY ignorant of the national passtime Theoren Fleury has made loving hockey ALOT easier.PS To the angry annonymous you should grow the fuck up.Theoren Fleury doesnt owe anyone anything. He played the game in the NHL for 16 crazy fucking years banging it out every night. He has seen it all and done it all for the NHL,his team, his country, his family, and you.God only knows what goes onin the big money boys club.Add pervasive addiction, krohns disease, a marriage falling apart, and everybody knowing you business then walk awhile in his shoes.

Spare me the Kleenex. We all know the Theoren Fleury Story.

Fact is he can't play in the NHL because

A. He's officially retired.

Filed by himself, which is a pretty good indicator of his intentions. Even if he were to un-retire, it brings us to...

B. Face a suspension by the NHL of indeterminate length, likely six months to a year at which point it would be up to the commissioner to re-instate him (more than a rubber stamp process).

C. Find a team that would actually be interested in a 25 lbs overweight, pack-a-day smoking, emotionally disturbed overgrown infant pushing 40.

Oh, and what a great job Fleury's done selling the sport in Britain! I've never laughed so hard!
